The Music of Chasing Life
By Tiaraju Aronovich

Scoring Chasing Life was an interesting and pleasant challenge, for the simple fact that a great deal of the movie is about the music itself - the music performed by the character Annie Chase and her rock and roll band.

It was a lot of fun going back to my old rock-n-roll references, combining them with all the composition theories and techniques developed through all the years in school and conservatory, and finally coming up with songs that had to be not only genuine, but also fit the movie's necessities and context.

Jodi Nelson was also a great help - for not only she is a songwriter herself, but also she provided me with all sorts of material. Another aspect of Chasing Life's music was the "lyrical" soundtrack. A story like Chasing Life would not be told with orchestral music, big strings or synthesizers. It's a rough story told "on the road", so my option here was to blend the languages of classical and folk music together - this explains the choice of instruments. I also had the privilege of working with fabulous musicians who brought this music to life.
